  1. FAQ Lighting

Requirements and Installation Information for Connecting Constant Current (CC) Fixtures to ILC-450/ILC-460 controllers

Wiring

Review this Quick Start Guide for standard wiring practices that should be followed.

Important Topics that should be considered are summarized below:

  1. Wiring

Depending upon the model of connected constant current fixture (see Table below), standard CL-2 rated Thermostat wire with either a 5-conductor configuration or an 8-conductor configuration should be run from the ILC-4x0 to the first fixture's IN port. The same 5 or 8 conductor wiring should then be continued in a daisy-chain format to each subsequent fixture (until the maximum number of fixtures is reached or a lesser number as designed within the system is reached).

Version of Absolute Light Terminals Configuration for IN.OUT connections on Fixture Distance from ILC-4x0 to last Fixture Gauge/Type of Wire to connect devices Requirement for End of Line Terminator (EOL)
Version 1 8-pin IN/8-pin OUT 230 feet 20 AWG Thermostat Wire from ILC-4x0 to first fixture, same for remaining fixtures Yes (8 pin type)
Version 2 5-pin IN/5-pin OUT (on or near each fixture) 230 feet 20 AWG Thermostat Wire from ILC-4x0 to first fixture, 18 AWG (or 20AWG) to remaining downstream units Yes (5-pin type)

  2. Power Supply Units (PSU).

See the table before for proper selection of the correct PSU for the type of fixture and number of fixtures connected to each ILC-4x0. r.

    Fixture Type Min/Max Fixtures Supported Case 1: # Fixtures/Recommended PSU Case 2: # Fixtures/Recommended PSU
    PAR 16 Min-1: Max-4 fixtures 1-2 fixtures/24v 96watt PSU 3-4 fixtures/48v 96watt PSU
    PAR 20 Min-1: Max-2 fixtures 1 fixture/24v 96watt PSU 2 fixtures/48v 96watt PSU
    PAR 30 Min-1: Max-1 fixture 1 fixture/48v 96watt PSU 1 fixtures/48v 96watt PSU
    PAR 8 Min-1: Max-10 fixtures 5 fixtures/24v 96watt PSU 6-10 fixtures/48v 96watt PSU

  3. Number of Fixtures to be Connected.

Depending upon the model of the specified fixture, the maximum number varies depending upon the design of the fixture itself (number of LEDs within the fixture). Refer to the table above for more information.

  4. Compatible Constant Current Fixtures.

Please review the table below for compatible Constant Current fixtures. Contact Converging Systems for the latest in compatible fixtures and connection detail.

    Compatible Fixtures Min/Max Fixtures Supported
Clarte Lighting Absolute Light Product Line Min-1: Max-4 fixtures for PAR16; Min-1: Max-2 for Par 20

  5. Requirement for a Front-end (Gateways or Encoders) to the ILC-4x0 Device.

The ILC-4x0 controllers require a front-end (IP Gateway or DMX master) in order for these units to operate. See table below for compatible front-end devices.

    Controller Model Required Front-end
    ILC-450 e-Node 2000 or e-node 40000
    ILC-460 e-Node 2100 or e-Node 41000 or 3rd-party DMX encoder
